Summer: Kalokairi
30 Jan, 2022
DESCRIPTION

This is a work that revolves around the nostalgia surrounding summer. A search to re-discover memories by using own photographic material, archive material from my family albums, found pictures at the market and illustrations/drawings. By revisiting old photographies I try to create new memories connected to them either with my own images or with other approaches. Kalokairi in Greek means â€summerâ€. I am using both the English and Greek words to emphize the duality of being half Greek/Swede and the complexity of having stood with one foot in both cultures since I grew up.
Based on personal documentary storytelling Tordheim creates his narratives where the beholder gets invited to fragments of his life. With intuition as guiding star in his artistic practice he works with his personal essays in order to depict something that could be considered as a combination of truth and fiction. With a number of self published books in his pocket, Tordheim often plays with combinations of images, collages, archive material, text and found images in order to enhance his story. The trouble of being private in your practice is once you start being private is when you really start hiding yourself. That question is of great importance in Tordheim’s artistic practice. Tordheims works has been shown in Sweden and outbroad and he is currently living in Athens, Greece.
